Exome Sequencing Corroborates Parkinson’s Risk Gene In Hereditary Lung Cancer

As per a research report found in the American Journal of Human Genetics, persistent alteration in a gene which contributes to Parkinson’s disease, is also a likely contributor to genetic lung cancer risk. The research and its conclusions: Scientists from Wisconsin Medical College and other centers chose three members of a family that frequently suffered from lung cancer, conducted exome sequencing on them, and found mutations in PARK 2, which is a gene relating to the ubiquitin ligase enzyme involved in biological changes such as metabolism and stress response, and  cell growth regulation. Mutations which are of withdrawing nature, are found to be connected to the initial stage of Parkinson’s disease, though the gene’s possible excessive growth suppression might mean that these genetic minor malfunctions are likely to cause cancer. The study was repeated on three other members of the same family only to corroborate the earlier observations. They found that the genes of the sec

Harnessing TCells To Beat Lung Cancer

It all started with a repetitive coughing syndrome in 2007for Paterson, 27. Never a smoker, and always in the best of health, she had the least inkling that her ailment would be diagnosed as lung cancer. Her physicians too were in utter surprise and shock when it turned out to be cancer. The confirmation came after four years of battle in the diagnostic stage itself, by which time, true to the name, the lung cancer had spread cancerously. It was Stage IV cancer for which the recovery rate is very thin, with only 1 percent living for 5 years after diagnosis. Last November, Paterson placed herself on a treatment-cum-clinical trial of medicines called immunotherapies. These are drugs that don’t attack cancer directly; on the other hand, they fight the disease by strengthening the body’s immune system fight tumors and by attacking the proteins that conceal the disease from T Cells. Flutter in the industry: As immunotherapies and their drugs begin to gain popularity owing to their like

California Lung Cancer Screening Is Best For Cancer Prevention

Among all types of cancer diseases the lung cancer seems to be a unique, tricky and still considered a deadly disease. The symptoms for lung cancer are similar to the common bronchitis or asthma that deceives a right diagnosis and by the time it is detected the disease has spread to a large extent. Till now this unique lung cancer is hard to detect without an invasive lung biopsy. Thanks to the press release of Good Samaritan Hospital in California which has a cutting edge over others by detecting this dreadful lung cancer through a non-invasive procedure a boon to the prospective cancerous patients. A new development is happening in this great hospital. Read further to find how prevention is better than cure in avoiding this dreadful killer disease. The low cost Lung Cancer screening program helps the attendees of the Smoking Cessation Classes that are being conducted in the current year 2015. As reported by Globe Newswire in San Jose, California, the leading Good Samaritan Hospital

Researchers Hope The New Drug That Stops Cancer Spread In Mice Leads To One That Works On Humans

Cancer cells metastasize and spread escaping detection by the body’s immune system by mutilating the sugars on their surfaces. It’s P-3Fax-Neu5Ac which blocs those changes. What’s this P-3Fax-Neu5Ac? It’s a drug that stops cancer’s spread in mice. Yes, scientists have found it recently. According to Cory Rillahan, a Chemical Biologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre in New York City, “It’s a long way from public use, yet it’s nevertheless promising.”

Obamacare – Will It Help America To Persist Winning The Crusade Against Cancer?

American Cancer Society’s Facts And Figures states: Mortality rate from cancer has declined 22% from its 1991 high, meaning saving 1.5 million cancer patients from the jaws of death; and this is mainly due to reduction in lung cancer, in turn due to dwindling number of tobacco smokers Statistics further show that for men, since 1930s, deaths due to lung cancer phenomenally shot up, while it dwindled since 1990; and for women, an increase from 1960s, followed by a downward slide from 2005 has occurred.  Still, the disease is terribly dreaded due to its life-threatening nature. Findings on other cancers: The incidence of other cancers has also become reduced due to early detection and effective treatments.  For the period 2004-2010, the five-year relative survival rate has gone up from 49% to 68 % of 1975-1977. However, analysts like Ezra Klein have a different view. They consider the death rate (instead of the survival rate) which is the ratio of the deaths to the number of people

Drinking Coffee Regularly Can Reduce The Danger Of Skin Cancer Form Melanoma

Coffee has gained negative feedback in the past few years. Facts state when recommended intaking of restricted amount of caffeine a lot number of people have lessened their consumption of coffee and many others took to decaffeinated coffee for improvement in their overall health condition. However, it is reported from a new study printed on the “Journal of the National Cancer Institute” that a connection has been found amid higher amount of caffeine consumption and less probability of melanoma which is known to be one of the deadliest skin cancerous forms. There are facts stating that melanoma is now the 5th cancerous forms in the United States and it is even one of the leading causes of death occurrences relating to the skin cancer. Furthermore it is revealed that approximately 77,000 individuals in the country are being diagnosed with this disease every year.  Shockingly, 10,000 of such cases are in the serious stage. Lung cancer is also the serious cause of death in the countr

The life giver is taking life too!

From the dawn of the history of science we have been told that life cannot exist on earth without oxygen. But some recent scientific researches indicate that it can take life too. The ancient Greek physician Paracelsus  once said  “the dose makes the poison” and as per observations published in PeerJ, even oxygen may fall a victim to this adage proving that too much of good stuffs may not always be good. Source: Alamy The Backdrop In the U.S.A, lung cancer causes about 27 percent of all cancer related deaths and claims around 160,000 lives every year. Being interested in the geographical distribution of cancer, Kamen Simeonov and his research associate Danniel Himelstine conducted a study to see if there was any fluctuations in lung cancer and the probable reasons behind those. For conducting the study the team selected the American west coast as the field of study and in order to ensure control and remove all biases they also studied the incidences of breast, prostate and color
