A quick test that can save your life from lung cancer

A quick and simple test has been introduced in the medical world to detect lung cancer within 8 seconds. Lung cancer screenings is not very popular like mammograms and colonoscopies, but medical study shows that this trend will change soon. This method is proving to be successful in detecting lung cancer at earlier stages than other screening methods do. This technique totally relies on ultra-low-dose CT technology. Dr. Michael Brodsky, being a body imaging specialist with Larchmont Medical Imaging and a radiologist, said that the Hainesport-based service provider has screened about 180 asymptomatic patients since it started using the process 18 months ago at its patient care sites in Willingboro, Medford, Mount Laurel and Moorestown. Among those tests, four incidents were of lung cancer including two early stage cases. Two more patients are going to have follow-up tests to determine if the screenings showed cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, mainly old people suffer fr

Keytruda fights lung cancer

Keytruda is a newly discovered drug which proved to be better than other drugs in case of curing lung cancer. Dr. Edward Garon of UCLA has to say “this can be a substantial change for many patients from the way they have been treated before”. His team has tested Keytruda in 495 patients. It was not a total cure but it showed a ray of hope. Lung cancer is causing death profusely in United States. Garon’s team said that patients treated with Keytruda had their cancer stopped growing for almost a year and some still did not get back. Many patients had a mutation in PD-L1 and people who were ingested the drug were more likely to have the mutation. Keytruda stimulates the body’s immune system to destroy the lung cancer cells. The UCLA researchers reported that Keytruda is safe and effective for halting tumour. Further study marked the response of Keytruda towards the protein PD-L1 as an indicator. Dr. Garon mentioned “pembrolizumab showed prolonged response in patients with lung c

Lung Cancer: Listen To What Dr. Kevin Has To Say About The Diagnosis & Treatment

Doctor Kevin Most offered a thorough discussion on the lung cancer on the morning of March 9, 2015. His valuable notes are discussed henceforth. Although there are a number of restrictions enforced on smoking, the disease of lung cancer remains a vital cause of death by cancer worldwide. In the year of 2012, it had been found that about 1.6 million people were found dead due to this fatal disease. However, the changes in insurances last year had affected the screening of cancer patients with high risk. During recent weeks, it made an impact on the treatment procedure. Well, if these two fields can be combined then it can surely be expected to have a drop in the number of casualties. Lung cancer can be referred to as one of the most obvious reasons behind death by cancer for both the sexes in the United States. The survival rate for five years is 17.8% only. Key reason behind this poor result being the disease was diagnosed long after being spread. The symptoms are also very common lik

Better treatment for previous cancer diagnosed

Lung cancer has been a serious problem in people nowadays and the main reason is not smoking anymore. People who are over exposed to smoke and pollution in general are also suffering from this problem. However many lung cancer has been cured but to bad lifestyles etc. it may come up again, but one should not live in fear and get themselves checked. It is not necessary that once a person who has been diagnosed with lung cancer may be diagnosed with it again and so his or her survival rate becomes less. Doctors say that if a person has suffered from cancer before then this should not prevent them from going for clinical trials for advance lung cancer as the clinical outcomes will remain same. This research was done by UT Southwestern Medical center and they claim that this research can boost the enrolment in lung cancer clinical trials. Irrespective of what kind of cancer a person has in the past, time period etc. does not affect his/her survival rate and thus one should not back off fr

Rising Cases Of Lung Cancer Should Serve As A Warning

I remember one time my grandmother paid us a visit in the city, she made a remark how the world has changed. She was referring to a group of ladies who as they chatted, standing outside the restaurant, would pause every now and then to take a puff from the cigarette clutched between their meticulously manicured nails. She went on to explain how during her time, you would not see a woman smoking, let alone a well-educated woman. You must understand, this was almost ten years ago and it was her first time in the big city. But she did have a point, women smoking was not something one could easily observe in developing countries such as Kenya, not until recent times. The situation was different in developed countries where a woman smoking is nothing to write home about and is a rising trend. Subsequently, cases of lung cancer in women is higher in developing countries. However, what came as a surprise was the finding that lung cancer is now the leading cause of death in women in developed

Vegetarian Diet Lowers The Risk Of Colorectal Cancer

Colorectal CancerColorectal cancer, like lung cancer, is a dreaded disease that affects portion of the large intestine leading from the cecum to the rectum and the rectum proper in humans. As part of their continuing research, Seventh Day Adventists in America further held studies on vegetarians, pescovegetarians (vegetarians eating no meat but eating fish more than once in a month) and low meat-eating groups to study the spread of colorectal cancer amongst such demographies, releasing their findings on March 9, 2015 in JAMA Internal Medicine. The studies revealed that vegetarians have 22% lower risk for colorectal cancer than normal meat eaters, while, surprisingly, pescovegetarians (a part of vegetarian community) stand a 43% lower risk of contracting this cancer, apart from having increased longevity and low risk from other diseases such as lung cancer as well. Why pescovegetarians were chosen for study? These people, who eat only fish and plant foods, and no meat, are rated to hav
